TCEP-HCl is a highly efficient, versatile, odorless, thiol-free reducing agent with applications in protein and other studies involving the reduction of disulfide bonds.TCEP is readily soluble in water (50 mg/ml H2O) and is very stable in many aqueous solutions.TCEP is able to reduce disulfide bonds as efficiently as dithiothreitol (DTT) but unlike DTT and other thiol-containing reducing agents, TCEP is not required to be removed prior to some of the sulfhydryl groups do not need to be removed prior to the cross-linking reaction.

TCEP is capable of selectively and completely reducing the most stable water-soluble alkyl disulfides over a wide pH range. Reduction typically takes less than 5 minutes at room temperature.TCEP is non-volatile, odorless, and unlike most other reducing agents, TCEP resists air oxidation. Compared to DTT, TCEP is more stable, more efficient, and can reduce disulfide bonds at low pH.
