Bacterial Vaccines & Polysaccharide Vaccines
07/05/2024Traditional bacterial vaccines refer to vaccines that use inactivated or detoxified (attenuated) bacteria as immune antigens, including tetanus vaccine, BCG vaccine, typhoid vaccine, etc. Polysaccharide vaccines (including polysaccharide conjugate vaccines) are obtained by separating and purifying the effective antigen components of bacteria (usually capsular polysaccharides), and then combining them with appropriate carriers (eg. tetanus toxoid protein) to offset the instability of polysaccharides in the body.
